SIBU: Nineteen members of Serian Division Vespa Fan Club are on a state tour to promote the spirit of Sarawak.

Pushing off on July 20, the five-day trip from Serian to Miri and back is the club’s initiative to celebrate July 22 as Sarawak Day.

Deputy treasurer Chung Kuang Chen, 28, said the convoy includes 13 Vespas and three vehicles.

“July 22 is a historical day for us and it is appropriate that we celebrate. We have stickers, posters and flags to give away

as part of the promotion,” he told reporters on Thursday.

The Serian Vespas made a pit stop in Sibu Thursday and were welcomed by the branches of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) in Sibu at Sibu gateway.

The scooter club was established in January, 2016 to gather Vespa fans.

“We are just bunch of people who love Vespa very much and we want these old Vespas to continue to exist,” he said.

Meanwhile, SUPP Bawang Assan secretary Jason Taylor said the party appreciated the club for the initiative.

Also present at Sibu Gateway for the welcome were the club’s chairman Chai Chee Onn and SUPP Pelawan chairman Clarence Ting.
