PUTRAJAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah yesterday attended the trooping of the colours ceremony at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here.

The ceremonial pledge of allegiance by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to His Majesty as the Supreme Commander of ATM was held in conjunction with the birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Also present at the ceremony, held for  the first time at the federal government’s administrative centre, were Prime Minister Datuk  Seri Najib Tun Razak and wife Datin  Seri Rosmah Mansor, and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

ATM chief General Tan Sri Dr Zulkifeli Mohd Zin was also present.

The arrival of the royal couple at Dataran Pahlawan Negara at 8.30am was greeted with the rendition of the National Anthem and a 21-gun salute by the 41 Ceremonial Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment.

Subsequently, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by 23 officers and 490 personnel of other ranks from the three ATM branches headed by the first battalion Royal Malay Regiment commanding officer Lieutenant-Colonel Mohd Radzi Othman.

At the same time, five ATM helicopters, namely a Cougar, a Super Lynx, a Fennec, an Agusta and a Sikorsky, and bearing the Malaysian, ATM, Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Army flags, performed a flypast.

After the inspection, the combination of ATM Central Bands under the leadership of Captain Muhammad Nor Azizan entered the arena with patriotic songs.

Thereafter, the trooping of the colour of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong followed in full military ceremony in slow and quick march tempo, followed by three shouts of ‘Daulat Tuanku’ by the guard of honour.

The ceremony ended with the recital of prayers by ATM Religious Corps director-general Major-General Datuk Kamaruddin Mamat.

Before leaving the venue, Tuanku Abdul Halim once again received a salute from the guard of honour and a flypast by the five ATM aircraft to the rendition of Negaraku.

The ceremony was also witnessed by cabinet ministers, senior officers from all three branches of the ATM, foreign diplomats, defence attaches of several high commissions and embassies in the country. — Bernama
