Philippines wants Malaysia to help boost regional growth

MANILA: The Philippines has expressed hope that Malaysia could share its economic success with neighbouring countries in order to help boost regional economic growth.

Philippine Trade Secretary Ramon M. Lopez told a visiting Malaysian franchise promotion mission led by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin that his country could learn a lot from Malaysia, which is ranked 18th in the World Bank’s 2016 Ease of Doing Business Report.

Lopez said while in Malaysia it takes only several hours to register a company, in his country the process could take up to five days.

Hamzah said Malaysia, through the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM), is prepared to share its expertise.

The Malaysian delegation, besides taking part in the Franchise Asia Philippines 2016 exposition that began on Friday, is also exploring collaboration opportunities with Philippine franchise industry development agencies.

The two-day mission, the second in the ‘Franchise Malaysia Goes Global (FMGG)’ 2016 programme after Jakarta, Indonesia last month, comprises representatives from Perbadanan Nasional Bhd, CCM, Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA), and 10 local franchise companies. — Bernama
