Lawn bowls coach has great expectations

KUCHING: The Sarawak men’s Four lawn bowl team and single progressed to the quarter finals to be held today (July 24).

In the men’s singles, Yusuf Aminnudin defeated Kedah’s Wan Nasrul Hakim 21-9 to enter the last eight.

Meanwhile, coach Siti Nadiahusna Saimi is looking forward for the Women’s Four final to take place today.

“I am confident that they will retain their gold medal won in Perlis back in 2014,” she said.

 

Three-gold target for petanque

KUCHING: Team manager Zaidi Mahdi is confident the Sarawak petanque team can repeat their haul of three gold medals achieved at the 2014 Perlis Sukma.

The state squad of seven men and seven women will begin their quest at Sarawak Petanque Complex, Kampung Santubong from today (July 24).

 

Sarawak lose men’s sepak takraw opener

MIRI: Kelantan beat Sarawak 3-0 in their first group match of the men’s sepak takraw at Miri City Stadium yesterday.

The state’s Regu A lost 1-2 while the Regu B and C were swept 0-2. Perak beat Sabah 2-1 in another preliminary match.

 

Women’s tennis team in semis

KUCHING: Sarawak beat Terengganu 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the women’s tennis team event at the SLTA centre yesterday.

Linda Liong lost the first singles 1-6, 2-6 to Anikka Nayar. The hosts equalised through Aslina Chua who thumbed Sara Nayar 6-1, 6-0.

Belinda Chai and Tan Lin Xin ensured Sarawak’s qualification with an easy 6-3, 6-0 win over Ainin Sa’udah Usop and Liza Nuralyaa Natasya.

The team will face Penang in their semi-final today (July 24).

1st Day at S’wak Squash Centre

KUCHING: Squash action began at the new Sarawak Squash Centre in Petra Jaya which boasts eight singles courts which can be coverted into three doubles courts.

The state players opened their campaign with wins in the men’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles.

Singles player Timothy Ling beat Kelantan’s Muhd Mukhlashin 3-2.

In the doubles, Marcus Sim and Jess Tay beat Terengganu’s Danial Nurhaqiem and Muhammad Aqif 2-0 while Jean Wong Zhi Xuan-Ma Si Yi won 2-1 against WPKL’s Amirah Rusydina-Chan Yi We.
