Sukma XVIII: Slyvester and Chan take the dive to win gold

KUCHING: The gold medal for Sarawak in diving was well earned today (July 24) at the Sukma XVIII Games in the men’s platform synchro category.

Slyvester Peter Gaing and Carlysle Chan Wee Chiek collected 332.10 points beating Muhd Haris Muhd Rizal and Tan Czyn Jien from Selangor (284.82 points) and Ahmad Danish Haikal Sha’ari and Muhammad Firas Shahrum Azam from Negeri Selangor (234.70 points).

But Slyvester and Chan were not able to repeat their success in the 1m springboard as they were trounced by national diver Muhd Syafiq Puteh from Perak.

Syafiq scored 323.00 points, defeating Slyvester’s 308.00 points and Chan’s 305.40 points – grabbing the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Meanwhile in the women’s 1m springboard, Jasmine Lai Pui Yee from Perak scored 248.65 points winning her the gold medal.

Selangor’s Adeline Chin Wei Ling took the silver medal with 213.60 points.

Kimberly Bong Qian Ping from Sarawak managed to pull in 192.85 points, claiming the bronze model.

Bong’s young teammate, 11-year-old Eilisha Rania Abrial Raja Gopal Francis only made it to seventh place of the same category.

So far, Sarawak has collected two gold, two silver and three bronze medals in the diving events.
