KUALA LUMPUR: How do you feel after being worn out due to the long run and deciding to give up, then out of the blue a superhero passes by you with a bright smile and words to cheer you up?

That was what the two siblings, Hanim Joufri, 35, and her younger sister, Odi Joufri, 20, did when they decided to wear superhero costumes during the #myMERCYrun International Humanitarian Run 2016 (#myMERCYrun2016) at Padang Merbok, here yesterday.

Themed ‘Run Like A Superhero’, Hanim who decided to wear America’s famous superhero character, ‘Captain America’ said eventhough she did not know the other participants in the event, yet she felt the need to lift up their spirit to finish their run.

“When other runners seemed tired and almost gave up, we were always there by their side motivating them to the finishing line.

“To see them smile and regain their energy to run again is a pleasure to us. I think that’s what superheroes do to help people and make them happy,” she told Bernama, after finishing the three-kilometre run, here.

For Odi, who wore a ‘Fairy’ costume said a superhero did not mean someone who only won something but also could be someone who was willing to contribute something to the society.

“Being involved in a healthy lifestyle programme like this could also make one a superhero as they are taking care of their body and help to spread positivity to others,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mercy Malaysia honorary secretary, Datin Raja Riza Shazmin Badrul Shah said #myMERCYrun2016 organised by Mercy Malaysia and Go International Group which entered its third year, was a charity run event to promote a healthy lifestyle among Malaysians.

“I believe everyone has their own superhero spirit in themselves and through this event, we want to encourage them to celebrate the deeds of everyday heroes in society who are willing to help one another in times of need.

“There were 1,622 participants taking part in this event and the registration fees will be donated to Mercy Malaysia’s General Humanitarian Fund.

“By now we have succesfully raised RM113,000 and the fund will support the efforts in providing aid to the affected communities in crisis and non-crisis situations, both locally and internationally,” she said. — Bernama
