MIRI: Colleagues of a Japanese man were shocked to find him hanged inside his rented apartment unit at Jalan Pulau Melayu here on Saturday.

According to one of the co-workers, they had planned to ask the Japanese man to go out for drinks that evening, but began to feel something was amiss when none of the numerous calls to him was answered.

“We felt a bit worried, so we went to his apartment to check at around 5pm. It was a tragic discovery. We immediately called the emergency line. The paramedics who came later pronounced him dead on site.”

It is learned that the Japanese man was a senior finance and accounting manager of a private company here.

“He came to Miri about a month ago. He was living alone in that apartment,” said the co-worker.

Police arrived at the scene later, around 9pm, and conducted their investigation immediately.

Miri police chief ACP Junaidi Bujang confirmed the case, disclosing that his men had ruled out foul play in the i ncident.

“This case has been classified as sudden death,” he said.

The body had been taken to Miri Hospital for a post-mortem.
