KAPIT: The Tropical Rainforest Hash Club–Kapit Chapter regards organising of the annual hash run this year a success, having gathered some 500 hashers from all over the country and also Brunei to take part in the two-day event.

According to organising secretary David Wong Hau Ching, the number of participants for this edition is by far the largest that the chapter has ever achieved throughout the past seven years.

“The event has done its part in promoting Kapit as an eco-tourism destination,” he told the hashers during the welcome dinner here on Saturday.

Wong also said apart from celebrating the chapter’s seventh anniversary this year, the hash run also commemorated Sarawak Day.

“We’re overjoyed to see such an overwhelming support and response from the hashers. Kapit, although small, is a special place because we have rugged terrains and are surrounded with nature — perfect for hosting outdoor activities.

“Perhaps those from big cities like Temerloh, Kuala Lumpur or Kuching, are not very familiar with Kapit terrains. Still, go for it and I’m sure that eventually, you would come to love this place,” he said.

Wong also highlighted the culinary delights that one could only find in this part of Sarawak.

“Even tonight, all the food on the buffet is made from the jungle produce here. This may be something new to some of you, but be assured that all ingredients are very fresh and contain no chemicals or pesticide, so they are safe to be consumed.

“Having said this, Kapit offers so many things to visitors — so please, don’t be too hurried to return home after the run. Stay for a while, move around and enjoy nature, as well as the friendly hospitality here.”

The run concluded yesterday, with the hashers traversing the jungle near the Sungai Man area.
