SANDAKAN: A 14-year-old boy was electrocuted when he fell into a river near Kampung Cahaya Baru Mile 3 here yesterday.
District Fire and Rescue Department head Mohd Razali Awang Ahmad said Siman Rudy, a foreigner without identification, was on a playing on a wooden boat when he accidentally fell into the river.
Siman was confirmed dead by the hospital staff at the scene.
“The station received a call about the incident at 11.12am and a team of six firemen reached the scene at 11.40am in a fire engine,” Razali said.
“The fire and rescue team has inspected the surrounding area. There are too many illegal power cable set-ups at the area and we hope SESB (Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd) would look into the matter,” he said.
There is a squatter settlement at Kampung Cahaya Baru Mile 3 which is believed to be powered by illegal electricity supply connections.
Police have taken over the case for investigation.
