KUCHING: Sarawak is honoured and privileged to host the 18th Malaysia Games (Sukma), said Minister of Youth and Sports and Solidarity Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong.

He said organising sporting events like Sukma was made easier by the close cooperation of officials and event organisers.

Manyin singled out State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani for his dedication and commitment in ensuring the smooth running of this year’s Sukma.

“Sukma is 30 years today. It started in 1986. Sarawak was also host in 1990. After 26 years, we are host again,” said Manyin at the welcoming dinner for officials of all contingents at Kuching Hilton Hotel on Sunday.

Themed ‘Jalinan Semangat Kesukanan’, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, his wife, Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu, Federal Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Brunei

Minister for Culture Youth and Sports Mej Jen (Rtd) Halbi Mohd Yussof were among those present.

Manyin said winning should not be everything for any contingent as Sukma was meant to enhance unity and solidarity among Malaysian.

He observed that the spirit of sportsmanship among the contingent was high and they accepted all decisions by judges, thus far.

“For the next eight days, work hard, compete hard, and enjoy your stay in Sarawak.”
