Smartphones top loot in three petty thefts in city

MIRI: Thieves struck three homes since Sunday morning and fled off with a line of smartphones.

The first theft was reported at a rented room in the city centre around 10am on Sunday.

The 21-year-old victim, a shopping mall promoter, lost her phone when she went to the washroom just mere steps away.

During her shower, the opportunist had sneaked into her room to steal away with her smartphone. Fortunately, the act was caught on CCTV installed along the corridor.

In a second theft incident, a house was burglarised in Pujut Padang Kerbau at around 9am.

The burglar had entered via the main door and stole a smartphone and clothes. The victim was asleep until finding out at 10am.

In a third theft, five smartphones and a tablet phone were reported stolen from a rented house in the city centre yesterday morning when the victim woke up at 10am.
