Three more bodies of boat capsize victims found

JOHOR BAHARU: Three more bodies of victims of the incident where a boat had capsized in the waters of Pantai Batu Layar, near Sungai Rengit, Kota Tinggi were found today, bringing the total number of drowned victims to 14 people so far.

Kota Tinggi Police Chief Supt Rahmat Othman said one of the three male bodies was found at 12.30 pm, 1.5 nautical miles from Kuala Punggai while two others were found at 6.45 pm, in the waters of Kuala Punggai and Tanjung Penawar.

With the latest discovery, the total of bodies found today rose to five, including the two found in the waters of Pantai Batu Layar near the Rengit River around 7.30 am, he said in a statement here today.

Rahmat said the victims who drowned so far consisted of seven men, six women and a baby girl.

On Tuesday, a boat had capsized and it was believed to be carrying 60 illegal Indonesian immigrants who were on their way out from this country to Batam, Indonesia.

However, 34 people comprising 26 men and eight women, survived the incident. — Bernama
