KUCHING: Sarawak star swimmer Angela Chieng Chui Fei claimed two gold medals in Sukma XVIII swimming event yesterday (July 25).

She finished 9:18.22 in women’s 800m freestyle category scoring her the gold medal, followed by Ong Ming Fen from Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur (WPKL) who came in second place in 9:26.82 and Rosalind Pang from Selangor came in third in 9:40.61.

Chieng repeated her success in women’s 200m butterfly in 2:22.96.

Johor’s Ong Yong Qi finished in 2:26.61 claiming the second spot while WPKL’s Anjali Lim finished in 2:29.01 gaining the third spot.

However in women’s 4X100 freestyle relay, Chieng and her teammates only managed to gain a silver finish in 4:03.93. They were two seconds behind Selangor who finished in 4:01.76, claiming the gold.

The bronze medal went to Penang who finished in 4:06.30.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Adenan Satem, Sarawak chef-de-mission Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, state secretary Tan Sri Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Assistant Minister for Early Childhood Education and Family Development Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed and Karim’s wife Datin Zuraini Abdul Jabbar were also present at the Aquatic Centre to show their support.
