KAPIT: Health Department statistics showed 3,119 diabetics registered with various clinics in the Kapit Division as of March.

Kapit Health officer Dr Deburra Peak Ngadan said from that figure, 2,526 received treatment at the Bletih Polyclinic, 310 at the Song Clinic, 173 at the Belaga Clinic and 110 at the Sungai Asap Clinic.

“In view of the seriousness of diabetes, Bletih Polyclinic has set up a taskforce group comprising of medical officers and nurses to provide post diabetes mellitus medication and advice to control the sickness from worsening among the patients and to draw up programmes to educate the public on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet to keep away diabetes. Kapit Polyclinic has done it very well in this aspect,” she said during the Diabetes Camp Programme 2016 recently.

“In view of the seriousness of diabetes mellitus, very often referred to as the ‘mother of all sicknesses’, the taskforce group on diabetes mellitus at Bletih Polyclinic did it very well because diabetes patients here are very aware of post-maintenance and healthcare, turning up regularly at the polyclinic for appointments and medication in the effort to contain the sickness.”

Some 50 diabetics took part in the one-day camp.
