KUCHING: Melaka’s Khairul Hafiz Jantan set a new national record of 10.18sec to win the men’s 100m race today, breaking the 10.30sec set by sprint king Watson Nyambek 18 years ago.

Khairul, who also happens to be 18 years old, broke Watson’s national record of 10.30sec set in Bukit Jalil in 1998 and his Sukma record of 10.33sec  in the fifth Sukma held in Pahang in 1996.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Nyepa of Sarawak came in second with 10.36sec followed by Badrul Hisyam Manap from Melaka with 10.36sec.
