KUCHING: The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry will be working closely with Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) in organising an annual unity seminar, said its minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The state government has instructed the ministry to work with DBKU and MBKS as an organisation to organise the Unity Seminar Festival (Perayaan Seminar Perpaduan) in August every year.

“This serves to remind us of the importance of stability and unity in the process of developing cities and the nation,” he said at the DBKU Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri on Monday night.

He was representing Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem at the function.

He commended DBKU and MBKS for their contributions in making Kuching a City of Unity, thus becoming a role model to the whole country.

Abang Johari, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, added that the ministry will continue to work together with DBKU to ensure Kuching develops as a modern, friendly and liveable city.

He said there are other plans to make Kuching greater, including the redevelopment of Reservoir Park as a Unity Park.

“In conjunction with our city’s status as the City of Unity, the government has decided that Reservoir Park will be redeveloped as Unity Park,” he said.

Meanwhile, Datuk Bandar of DBKU, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai in his welcoming speech earlier said the Ramah Tamah was an annual event organised by DBKU.

“It is meant to foster closer ties with the public and promote the spirit of one family and unity among DBKU personnel.

“Good relations among personnel of different races will ensure the success of the organisation in delivering its mission and vision,” he said.

There were seven food stalls serving various kinds of delicacies, and guests were also treated to entertainment and lucky draws.

Also present were Deputy Chief minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian among others.
