SIBU: A youth was yesterday sentenced to two years’ jail by a magistrates’ court here for assaulting his 18-year-old wife.
Nolam Ho, 22, of Tiong Hua Road pleaded guilty to the charge of voluntarily caused hurt to his wife at her residence at about 10am on July 15.
The offence was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code which provides for up to two years’ jail or RM4,000 fine, or both upon conviction.
A police report on the assault had been lodged.
Investigation revealed that the couple has been married for a year and they were quarrelling as his wife suspected him of taking dadah after finding an apparatus used for smoking drug in his bag.
She confronted him and in the ensuing quarrel, her husband slapped her several times and scratched her left hand, injuring it.
The victim’s father intervened and she was sent to hospital for medical attention.
The husband was arrested by police at about 12.30pm on July 25.
Magistrate Saiful Sayoti who presided over the case ordered the sentence to take effect from yesterday.
