MARUDI: Baram MP Anyi Ngau and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau received praise for rendering assistance to Eda Beran Community-based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) at Long Laput.

Its chairwoman Temenggong Elizabeth Deng said without their support and financial assistance it would be hard to run the centre.

She was speaking at the Open Day of the centre held in conjunction with its fourth anniversary recently.

On the Open Day, she said it was a day the special needs persons look forward to as it is a time to have fun and mingle with each other, their parents, relatives and other members of the society.

Besides that, it is also a day when they receive donations, most times in the form of rice, she added.

She said the Open Day was participated by more than 400 persons with disabilities and their parents who came from all over Baram District.

“This is a matter that is heavy to face as we need to do proper planning and get financial support for transportation, food and drinks,” she said, adding that they did not want them to go home empty-handed.

This time, they distributed to each of them 10 bags of rice.

The centre collected more than 4,000 packets of Huma type rice from well-wishers this year.

Elizabeth extended her thanks to KTS, individuals, Rotary Club, Lions Club and private companies for the donations.

She thanked government agencies such as the Welfare Department, Miri General Hospital and Pustaka Miri for their assistance.

The Open Day was officiated by Anyi and attended by Dennis and political secretary to the chief minister, Robert Laing Anyie.
