David adds gold to medal collection

KUCHING: David Teo Siew Keng gave the Sarawak camp reason to cheer yesterday when he shot down the men’s 50m SB Free Rifl e Prone gold at the Sarawak Shooting Range. Teo, who won the men’s 10m air rifle bronze on Tuesday, scored 587 points (x29) to fi nish ahead of Ahmad Khusyairi Abdul Razak and Zul Haziq Rosli who scored 587 points (x28) and 585 points (x32) respectively.

“I feel very happy to have won the gold today because all my hard work has paid off. I did not set any target of winning gold because I didn’t want that to affect my concentration,” he said.

“What’s more important is that I have given my best and I am satisfied that I have done that,” he added. The 18-year-old from Kuching will next take part in the men’s 50m SB Free Rifl e 3 Position. Delphine Chung Qi , who competed in the women’s 10m air pistol, missed the bronze medal by two points, finishing with 365 points when compared to 367 points by eventual bronze medalist Alianazirah Ishak of Pahang.

The gold and silver were won by Nur Zunaira Zakaria (374 points) of Selangor and Nur Batrisyia Nasuha (369 points) of Federal Territory. However, Chung was consoled with a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol team event when she and teammates Stephanie Sim Shu Ming and Beatrice Thieadora Lises combined for a total score of 1,073 points. — by Ting Tieng Hee
