KAPIT: A fire destroyed three wooden classroom blocks at SK Lepong Gaat, Baleh, on Tuesday.

When contacted, Kapit OCPD DSP Freddy Bian confirmed no one was injured in the fire around 7.15pm as the boarders were doing revision in the school hall some distance away.

In the absence of firefighting equipment, teachers and pupils watched helplessly as the fierce flames razed the classrooms.

SK Lepong Gaat is some two and a half hours by express boat from Kapit to Nanga Gaat and then longboat along Sungai Gaat.

It has some 50 pupils and 20 staff, including teachers and support staff.

Kapit District Education Office, Fire and Rescue Department and Kapit District Office personnel went to the scene yesterday to check on the extent of the damage.

The cause of the fire has yet to be established.
