KOTA KINABALU: Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam) gave out business tithe amounting to RM143,890.87 at its Aidifiltri open house here yesterday.

Bank Islam chairman Datuk Zamani Abdul Ghani presented RM104,390.87 to the Sabah Zakat Centre (PZS), RM10,000 to UiTM Sabah, RM20,000 to the Alamesra Hidayah Centre Sabah and RM2,000 to Sembulan Rumah Anak Kesayangan (RAK).

On top of that, a RM150 contribution each was also contributed to 50 of the RAK children during the open house.

“Bank Islam as a whole delivered business tithe amounting to RM143,890.87 to help the less fortunate around Sabah,” Zamani said at the open house.

“In addition to today’s event, the bank also organized several other open house ceremonies throughout the country like in Terengganu for Eastern Region, Kedah for North Region, Kuala Lumpur for Central Region, and Johor for the Southern Region, to jointly celebrate the Syawal joys with corporate customers as well as media partners,” he added.

Bank Islam distributed RM247,406.86 on July 14 in Terengganu, RM330,626.74 on July 20 in Kedah, RM835,140.05 on July 25 in Kuala Lumpur and RM309,904.80 in Johor.

Zamani disclosed that Bank Islam had distributed zakat amounting to almost RM2 million during the Syawal 1437H month to the Islamic and Malay Customs Council and Zakat Board in these states, three higher learning institutions, as well as two non-governmental organizations for welfare and Islamic preaching.

The contribution distributed is intended to help lighten the burden of the less fortunate students and community and be part of Bank Islam’s efforts to develop outstanding human capital in preparation for their future.

Bank Islam chief finance officer Mohd Muazzam Mohamed and its senior management were also at the ceremony.
