Businessman fined rm10,000, one day jail for bribing immigration officer

KUANTAN: A businessman was fined RM10,000 and a day’s jail by the Sessions Court here yesterday for bribing an Immigration officer in March last year.

Judge Datuk Habibah Mohamed Yusof handed down the sentence on Chong Kok Ming, 46, who pleaded guilty to the charge.

Chong, represented by lawyer Simon Evanson, paid the fine.

He was charged with giving bribe to an Immigration officer Abdullah Zawawi Mat Junoh at the Temerloh branch as inducement not to take action against a Bangladesh national who had no travel document.

The offence was committed at premises at Jalan Boh Bt. 2 1/2 Ringlet, Cameron Highlands at about 9.30 pm on March 16, 2015.
