Filipino charged with murdering workmate

KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here adjourned the trial of a Filipino labourer who was charged with killing his workmate to August 29-30.

Judicial Commissioner Ismail Brahim set the date for the continuation trial of Arjie Serenio, 28, who ia defended by counsel Datu Baginda Datu Laja.

Deputy public prosecutor Husna Abd Halim has called 10 witnesses and will be calling another three more to testify against the accused who was alleged to have killed his fellow countryman at a house construction site at Kampung Sunsuron in Tambunan about 4pm on January 24, 2014.

Arjie, who hails from Pagadian Zamboanga Del Sur, Philippines, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

In an unrelated case, Wong Meng Chi from China was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday with soliciting for the purpose of prostitution recently.

The offence was framed under Section 372B of the Penal Code which is punishable by a jail term of up to one year or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The court fixed August 15 for the case management and the accused was denied bail.
