Adenan’s stand gets ‘silent’ treatment

KUCHING: Leaders of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), three of the four state Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, have yet to comment on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s statement that he personally favours admitting the nine Bumiputera partyless assemblymen into Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).

PRS president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing’s reaction when contacted was that he preferred not to comment.

At press time, SPDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing could not be contacted while his deputy Datuk Nelson Balang Rining said he had no comment.

SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, also could not be reached for comments and there was no one in the party who could speak on his behalf. Adenan who is also PBB president made the statement at a Hari Raya dinner gathering at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Thursday night.

The nine are Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom (Pakan), Rosey Yunus (Bekenu), Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil (Mambong), Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa (Engkilili), Ranum Mina (Opar), Datuk Gerawat Gala (Mulu), Miro Simuh (Serembu) and John Ilus (Bukit Semuja).They had resigned from their respective parties namely Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras), United People’s (UPP) and PBB before the May 7 state election to enable them to contest as direct BN candidates for the seats which were subjected to multiple claims by various BN components. After the state election, all the nine applied to join PBB.
