KUCHING: Sarawak’s Aslina Chua is set to defend her gold medal against Sara Naya of Terengganu in the women’s singles tennis final today.

Aslina is expected to repeat her glorious performance back in Perlis Sukma 2014 and were among the athlete’s on the list set to win gold.

With only Aslina set to play in the final, the state’s target of four gold medals looks beyond reach as Aiman Hamdan lost to Koay Hao Sheng in the the men’s singles semifinals. Koay will play Ahmaed Deedat of Selangor in today’s final.

Meanwhile, the state’s hope of winning more gold lies with the mixed doubles in today’s semifinals where the Alvin Teng-Chua pair play Sri Aakash Freddiyar-Suhana Sofia. In the other semifinal, Damien Rocky-Archnaah Rajan (Sel) meet Christian Chin-Nursharneem Imann of Terengganu.

Both semifinals yesterday were cancelled due to bad weather. The SLTA courts yesterday only saw out one final: in the women’s doubles, where Sara Nayar-Uma Nayar of Terengganu defeated Archnaah Rahan-Suhana Sofia 6-7 (6), 6-1 (10-3).
