‘Proposed centre good for China-Malaysia ties’

MIRI: The establishment of Asia Pacific Training Centre, a collaborative effort between China University of Petroleum and Humanoid Sdn Bhd, will enhance China-Malaysia relations.

China University of Petroleum vice-president Wang Rui He noted that China’s diplomatic ties with Malaysia had grown in strength for more than 40 years, and it benefitted both sides.

“For instance, China is Malaysia’s largest trading partner for seven consecutive years while Malaysia is China’s largest Asean trading partner for eight consecutive years,” he said here yesterday at an event to announce the proposed centre, which will also be known as China University of Petroleum, Miri College.

“Therefore, this (proposed centre) will serve as a good platform to deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.”

On China University of Petroleum, Wang said it was currently associated with universities and academic institutions in 30 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Britain and Russia.

“At present, China University of Petroleum (East China) has established training centres in places such as Houston, Texas, and Alma-Ata, Kazakhtan,” he said.

“This global outreach of the university is in line with the ‘Silk Road’ initiative.”

Among those present at the event at Meritz Hotel here were Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, Miri Housing Land Development Sdn Bhd chairman Dato Lau Siu Wai, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis and Mayor Adam Yii.
