PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry is ready to work with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to place medical students to do housemanship training programme at the royal military hospitals and medical centres nationwide.

Welcoming the suggestion by ATM chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, Health Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said it was workable because the military hospitals were service hospitals with structures similar to the government hospitals.

“At present, the medical students from the National Defence University of Malaysia are doing their housemanship in the royal military hospitals and medical centres.

“We can discuss it further and how we can do it as early as possible,” he told reporters after handing over the letter of acceptance to the board of directors and contractors of two new Tamil schools at his office, here yesterday.

On Monday, Zulkifeli welcomed medical students to do their housemanship at its three royal military hospitals – Lumut, Perak; Terendak, Melaka and Kinrara, Kuala Lumpur and seven armed forces medical centres nationwide, which handled cases involving army personnel, their extended families and army veterans. — Bernama
