KUALA LUMPUR: The National Service Training Programme (PLKN) 2.0 can become a platform to produce skilled technical workers to meet the demand of the job market in Malaysia.

National Service Training Department (JLKN) director-general Datuk Mohmed Asri Yusof said the initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) gave trainees the opportunity to do advance training and work after the programme ends.

“Under Phase 2 of PLKN 2.0, trainees can undergo training in selected institutions. This can meet the demand of the job market in highly skilled areas,” he told Bernama, here.

JLKN has been collaborating with six private skills training institutes (ILKA) namely KRU Academy, Pahang Skills Development Centre, Academy ARMAG Oil & Gas, Kolej Nakiwa, Kolej Unikop and Enfiniti Vision Media Sdn Bhd.

It also work with 424 ILKA such as polytechnics, community colleges, Malaysia Automotive Institute, National Youth Skills Institute, Industrial Training Institute, National Agriculture Training Council, National Construction Academy, Malaysian Palm Oil Training Centre and Hevea Malaysia Academy.

As of July 2016, a total of 1,352 trainees were enrolled for a variety of skilled programmes at ILKA.

Mohmed Asri said he intends to cooperate with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture next year.

“We might need the services of the ministry so that trainees who are interested in the arts can undergo training over there,” he added.
