SIBU:  The commander of 9th Infantry Brigade, Brig-General Subari Tomo, says he is giving priority to establishing closer rapport with the local communities.

He said he would like to meet and know as many people as soon as possible and to work closely with all the communities here to ensure peace and stability.

He said this when several members of Sibu Golf Club, led by their president Dato Sri Wong Ing Kee, paid a courtesy call on him yesterday.

Others were deputy president Hii Tiong Kheng, secretary Roland Ha, captain Lau Hie Ping and committee members Peter Chiong, Simon Ting, Robert Lau Sie Hui and Stephen Ting.

Wong said it was the tradition of SGC to appoint the commander of 9th Infantry Brigade as honorary president of the club.

“The courtesy call yesterday was also to hand over an official appointment letter as well as to introduce the committee members to the brig-general,” he said.

Subari, who hails from Johor, took over the post in June from Brigadier General Abdul Rahim Sebeli who was transferred to Negri Sembilan as the new commander of the Army Academy in Port Dickson.

During the hour-long meeting with the golfers, Subari said he was keenly looking forward to playing golf with the local golfers at SGC.

“Once I have settled down and when time permits, I will certainly play golf with all of you,” he told his guests.

He was also invited to take part in the Semarak Group Golf Tournament tomorrow which will see over 100 golfers from various golf clubs in Sarawak participating.
