IPOH: A total of 1,284 people from across the country are participating in the three-day ‘Treasure Hunt Tone Race to Fiesta Alor Setar’ beginning yesterday.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) board of director member Datuk Ahmad Zainuddin Jamaluddin said the treasure hunt from KL Sentral station to Alor Setar station would be using 12 KTMB electric train service (ETS) coaches.

He said the programme, which would be using a 1,000 metre-long coach, was expected to make it to the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the longest train coach.

“This programme is a good promotional effort because many people, especially in the northern region are beginning to use the train service.

“Usually ETS operates with six coaches only and carry 312 passengers, but for this programme we will carry up to 600 passengers,” he told a press conference here.

Ahmad Zainuddin said the number of passengers in the northern region was among the highest in the country with 10,000 passengers on weekdays and 13,000 passengers on weekends.

Meanwhile, Tone Group chairman Datuk Syed Kamaruzaman Syed Abdullah said the inaugural programme would be offering total prizes worth RM200,000.

“Participants are ToneExcel users. Apart from using ETS, some participants will be using their own vehicles in this treasure hunt,” he said. — Bernama
