LAHAD DATU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) has arrested 12 illegal immigrants including five children, for trying to enter the country through the Tanjung Labian beach, here today.

ESSCom Commander Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said the immigrants was arrested around 12.15am on the beach during the Op Taring after receiving a public tip-off.

He said, the immigrants who were Philippines nationals, aged between one and 52, were hiding in two vehicles, including a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

“The security forces also arrested four local skippers and an Indonesian for further investigation.

“We will intensify our operations to prevent and curb the influx of illegal immigrants entering the country,” he said.

The immigrants were detained under the Immigration Act 1959/1963 (Revised 2002) and were handed over to the Immigration Department for further action. – Bernama
