KUCHING: Automated teller machine (ATM) services will be made available to visitors at next year’s Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF).

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed this at a press conference at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) yesterday.

He said participants at the festival normally do not carry a lot of cash on them, so need such services to withdraw cash and for other banking transactions.

“I have instructed my ministry to liaise with the financial institutions to install ATM and credit card services next year to enable mobile transactions for visitors during the 20th edition of RWMF,” he said.

This year’s RWMF featured 25 performers comprising 17 international and eight Malaysian artistes.

Also present were Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture permanent secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chairman Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz and STB director of events and corporate relations Angelina Patricia Bateman.

Abang Johari who is also Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture said his ministry was in talks with Hong Kong Airlines on the possibility of increasing flight frequency to Kuching from twice a week to thrice weekly.

He revealed that Hubei Wanda New Airlines International Service was also interested to have direct flights to Sarawak. He, however, declined to elaborate.
