SIBU: Every family should take the initiative to ensure that at least one family member has basic knowledge of first aid.

Sibu Journalists Association president Yii Souk Ming, who made the suggestion yesterday, said being well versed in first aid was very useful, especially during emergencies.

“That is why at least one member from every family should learn this skill,” he said when met after ‘A First Aider in Every Home Training’.

The course was conducted by Ting Siao Fong of Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sibu Chapter. The Chapter’s chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee was also present.

Meanwhile, another association member, Watt Zacchaeus, opined there was nothing to lose in pursuing first aid courses.

“For instance, should something happen to a family member, the first aider can render help immediately.”

Another member, Earl Anek, said he would share the knowledge gained from the course with his family members.

“Knowledge about first aid can save lives.”
