KUCHING: A police team led by DSP Sarifuddin Mustaffa nabbed a 49-year-old man and seized a home-made shotgun during a raid at Kpg Rukam, Biawak, Lundu near here Saturday night.

The raid, which took place at 11.10pm, was part of a follow-up operation into the recent Bau murder case.

In a press statement yesterday, state CID chief SAC Dev Kumar said the suspect is believed to have been dealing with illegal firearms.

“From investigations, we had reasons to suspect that the owner of the house was dealing with illegal firearms.

“He is suspected to have supplied the shotgun that was used to shoot the murder victim at Kpg Jugan, Bau.”

During the raid, Dev Kumar said the home-made shotgun was found concealed in one of the cupboards in the kitchen.

“The owner of the house, a 49-year old man was arrested. We believe that the shotgun could have come from a neighbouring country.”

The suspect will be investigated for possessing a firearm without licence or permit under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960.

Upon conviction, he could be imprisoned up to seven years and fined up to RM10,000.
