SAMARAHAN: The SCC Annual Matchplay (Yale Challenge Trophy) ended last Sunday with Cash exacting revenge on their close rival HKH Pink in the final to lift the trophy.

The final was a rematch of the two teams that met in Kelab Golf Sarawak Team Match play Championship final in March this year.

During that final, HKH Pink beat Cash to emerge the eventual champions of the event. However, in Sunday’s final Cash upset the form book to pip HKH to the winners circle by taking the game all the way to the last hole.

Cash rushed into an early lead when their two singles of Lincoln Leong and Goh Chee Chen beat Steven Hii and Hoan Kee Hock respectively.

However, the match was squared off when the four-ball pairing of Lee Kah Ming and Gianino Foo (HKH Pink) saw off the challenge from

Ong Kim Peng and Tungie Wong while Aziel Teo and Jimmie Teo (HKH Pink) beat Vincent Wong and Martin Chai.

Jacob Yong and Clarence Chai needed only to square off the last hole over Aaron Lau and Sim Khee Hian (HKH Pink) to lift the Yale Challenge Trophy.

After their triumph Cash team leader Jackson Lim said, “We are very satisfied with the win against HKH team because we lost to them in the Sarawak Golf Club matchplay final in March.

“We were the underdogs for Team HKH have top golfers from the recently concluded Sukma in their team so that makes our victory sweeter.”

The third placing match saw HGA facing off against their earlier rivals HKH Pink.

During the earlier rounds, HGA managed to beat HKH Pink to send them down into the loser pool bracket of the competition.

However in Saturday’s match, HKH Pink were more than ready for the challenge, when they beat HGA soundly by 4-1 to book their place in Sunday’s final. There was also a Special Invitation game arranged for the players of teams in the loser’s

bracket, with each team fielding six representatives to vie for five gross and five nett prizes.

The gross title was won by Ally Zulkarnain (79 – OCB), followed by Joseph Lau (79), Mohd Amirul (80), Johari Aman (81 – OCB) and Mohd Yusri (81).

The winners of the nett category were Edward Chin (68 – OCB), Hilary Lee (68), Robin Tigai (70), Ahmad Zain (72 – OCB) and Tony Paulus (72 – OCB).
