Miri to celebrate state-level TYT’s birthday on September 9-11

MIRI: The State Government will hold the state-level 80th birthday celebration of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud in Miri on Sept 9-11.

The main events will be the thanksgiving prayer at Miri divisional At Taqwa Mosque on the evening of Sept 9 and a parade and procession of 80 contingents from all spectrums of society in the state on Sept 10.

This was announced by organising committee chairman Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is the Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment, at a press conference here after chairing a meeting at Miri Resident’s Office yesterday.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister of Welfare and Community Wellbeing Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and heads of government departments, agencies, uniformed bodies and others.

Awang Tengah also said an exhibition featuring the contributions and journey of the Head of State will be held at Miri Civic Centre from Sept 9 to 11, which is open to the public.

The colourful parade which would include uniformed bodies, government departments and agencies, NGOs and other bodies would be held at Miri Stadium on the morning of Sept 10, which will be followed by the investiture of awards ceremony.

“We call on members of the public to turn up in droves to the celebration in conjunction with our Head of State’s 80th birthday,” said Awang Tengah.

In the evening of Sept 10, he said, a state banquet would be held and a Pentas Rakyat featuring local and recording artistes from Peninsular Malaysia will entertain the crowd at Miri City Fan.

On Sept 11, a tea reception would be held at Miri Civic Centre, he also announced.
