Illegal money lender jailed, fined

TAWAU: A 36-year-old local man was sentenced to a year’s jail and fined RM5,000, in default, seven months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for lending money without a valid licence.

Magistrate Ferhanshah Farene meted out the sentence on Lim Jun Vui for two counts under Section 5(2) of the Money Lenders Act.

The accused was first charged with lending RM50,000 to Tsen Sung Fung, 47, about 8am on July 31 at Sin Onn Market here.

On the second count, he was charged with giving a RM2,000 loan to Haslizan bin Ahmad, 41, about 10am on January 8 in front of Yuk Chin School.

The accused was detained on July 28 about 11am at a house at Taman Pasadena, for giving loans to the public without a valid licence.

The same court yesterday jailed a 28-year-old man for two years and fined him RM5,000, in default, seven months in jail for causing the death of a pillion rider.

Magistrate Ferhanshah Farene meted out the sentence on Mohd Khairol Anuar bin Abdullah for a charge under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act.

The accused who was riding a motorcycle, caused the death of Lailatul Shaerah Issaty binti Abdul Rahman, 23, on January 5 this year at Sin Onn Road at about 1.57am.
