MIRI: The Sessions Court here on Wednesday fined a beautician, who owns a beauty salon, RM8,500 for possession of products not registered with the Ministry of Health.

The woman pleaded guilty to the offence under Regulation 7(1)(a) Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984, which is punishable under Section 12(1) Sale of Drugs Act 1952.

The Section carries a maximum fine of RM25,000 or up to three years in jail. Sessions Court Judge Steve Ritikos fined her RM8,500 in default 10 months in prison. Two types of unregistered products were seized during a raid at her premises in March by the Pharmacy Enforcement Division.

The seized products were in injection form and the contents included Vitamin C, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. All the seized products were not registered with the Ministry of Health.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Pharmacy Enforcement Division reminded all beauty salons to ensure that all their products are registered products or notified cosmetics, which comply with the law enforced by the Ministry of Health.
