KUALA LUMPUR: There is improvement in the health condition of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is currently undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

According to an IJN source, the former prime minister who was admitted on Tuesday for lung infection, was still hospitalised but “his condition is improving”.

He said so far, no decision had been made on when Dr Mahathir would be discharged.

Dr Mahathir, 91, has been placed in the normal ward and upon advice of the medical team, visits have been confined to family members.

In 1989, he suffered heart problems and underwent coronary bypass surgery at the IJN. Dr Mahathir underwent a second bypass operation in 2007. In 2013, he was admitted to the IJN for 10 days for treatment of a chest infection. — Bernama
