MUKAH: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) conducted a series of intensive learning sessions for 51 students of Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) Mukah recently under the Budi-Petronas Programme.

According to a press release, the sessions, conducted by two of Petronas’ units – Petronas Resource Centre (PRC) and Petrosains – were aimed at motivating the students and equipping them with the necessary skills to effectively pursue their studies.

Among the topics covered was ‘Information Literacy’ by PRC which focused on equipping the students with basic skills on information searching.

This include teaching them to identify, select, evaluate and access reliable sources of information for their academic work.

Meanwhile, Petrosains conducted a workshop to create awareness on the wonders of science and technology.

The Budi-Petronas Programme is a collaboration between Petronas and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to sponsor underprivileged students pursuing their studies at MRSM.

There are currently 150 students studying at MRSM Mukah, MRSM Kuching and MRSM Betong under this programme.

The sponsorship includes yearly educational allowance over five years (from Form 1 to Form 5) to pay for the students’ learning materials, uniforms, hostel necessities and other basic needs.

The Budi-Petronas Programme is part of Petronas’ ongoing corporate social investment commitment towards education.

Other programmes include Trust School – a collaboration between Petronas and Yayasan Amir involving five schools and a student population of 2,600 in Lundu and Vocational Institution Sponsorship and Training Assistance (Vista).

Under Vista, Petronas sponsors selected students from underprivileged families who are currently studying at Politeknik Kuching and Institut Kemahiran Mara Bintulu, as well as providing technical institutions with equipment, learning and training aids, technical support and advice.
