Locum dentist charged with causing death of DPM’s son-in-law

KUALA LUMPUR: A locum dentist was charged in the Sessions Court here today with causing the death of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s son-in-law aged 44, in June.

Dr Ting Teck Chin, 36, who is also an Obstetric & Gynaecology specialist claimed trial to causing Datuk Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi’s death.

He is accused of committing the offence at the Imperial Dental Specialist Centre in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar Baru, Brickfields here, between 6pm and 9.05pm on June 1.

The charge under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code, carries a maximum 10 years imprisonment or a fine or both, on conviction.

Judge Zainal L. Salleh set RM20,000 as bail with one surety, and Oct 17 for re-mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Abazafree Mohd Abbas appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel Datuk K.Kumaraendran.

Syed Alman Zain, who was married to Ahmad Zahid’s eldest daughter Datuk Nurulhidayah, 37, reportedly lost consciousness while receiving dental treatment at the centre and was referred to University of Malaya Medical Centre before being confirmed dead. -BERNAMA
