Man charged for assault of one girl and intent to outrage modesty of another girl

SIBU: A man was brought before a magistrate’s court here yesterday to face a charge of assault, and another charge of intent to outrage the modesty of a girl.

He pleaded not guilty and was ordered to be released on RM5,000 bail with two sureties for each charge. Sabarruddin Hairani, 28, faces two charges under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment up to 10 years, a fine or whipping, or any two such punishments upon conviction.

He allegedly committed the first offence on a 12-year-old girl at a school in Bukit Assek Road between 6.02am and 6.06am on July 20. He allegedly committed the second offence on another 12-year-old girl at a different school in Bukit Assek between 6.25am and 6.31am on July 29.

In an unrelated case, Desmond Hijau Johnny, 21, was sentenced to five months’ jail by the court after he pleaded guilty to criminal intimidation.

He had intimidated his father Johnny Sawing, 42, using a kitchen knife in a rented house at Tiong Hua Road at about 8pm on Aug 4.

Desmond was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carried a maximum imprisonment of seven years or fine, or both upon conviction.

Meanwhile, Desmond was also sentenced to two months in jail to be followed by two years of supervision after he pleaded guilty to drug abuse. He was found to have consumed Methamphetamine at Sg Merah Police Station, Wawasan Road at about 1pm on June 25, 2014.

Desmond was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries a fine not more than RM5,000 or a jail term not more than two years, and to undergo supervision for two years at least but not more than three years.

He was also to report to the Central Police Station once a month. The two sentences are to run consecutively, giving him a total of seven months in jail and two years of supervision.
