SIBU: Newly formed Sibu Dashing Dolphin Swimming Club (DDSC) collected 20 gold, 23 silver and 18 bronze medals to win the Gymkhana Club Miri (GCM) International Inter-Club Swimming Championship held in Miri last weekend.

Two of its swimmers, Toh Aw Zien and Toh Chieh Ran, were also adjudged the Best Boy and Best Girl. Aw Zien chalked up four gold, three silver and two bronze medals to win the best boy award for Group 1. En route, he shattered the 100m butterfly record, clocking a time of 1:03.35s to beat the previous record 1:03.81s.

Chieh Ran outshone many of her teammates as she secured seven gold and two silver medals to win the best girl award for Group 2.

Overall, PJMS Aquatic Swimming Club from Sabah (18 gold-15 silver-5 bronze) were placed second, followed by Sarakuatik Swimming Club from Serian (16-2-3). DDSC, led by team manager Christine Lau and coach Jimmy Lau, comprised 11 boys and nine girls. The swimmers are Amelia Wong Hwey Zhi, Brandon Wong, Brian Lu Yek Hong, Debbie Lau, Emily Wong Li Ming, Esther Ngu Huong Li, Fung Xin Yan, Gilbert Lu Yek Fu, Irene Kii Yu Ting, Jordan Ling Yao Xing, Lau Teck Lung, Miyuki Wong Shhau Rou, Timothy Wong Siang Qi, Tow Aw Zien, Toh Bock Zien, Toh Chieh Ran, Toh Ghii Ran, Yoshiko Wong Lin Yan.

The two-day competition saw the participation of 11 swimming clubs, among them Brunei Speed SC, Hammerhead SC, Kelab Gymkhana Miri, Kelab Rekreasi Petroliam, Kelab Renang Miri, Royal Brunei Recreation Club, Skim Latihan Renang Lutong and Sarawak Club (Kuching). Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin officiated at the closing ceremony. — by Philip Wong
