RIO DE JANEIRO: National women’s doubles Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei made it into the quarterfinals after clinching their second win in the group match of the badminton competition at the Rio Olympic Games here on Friday.
The pair took 36 minutes to dispose Hong Kong’s Poon Lok Yan and Tse Ying Suet 21-15, 21-13 and will meet Indonesia’s world nombor four, Niyta Krishinda Maheswari-Greysia Polli to decide the Group C winner.
Meanwhile, mixed pair Chan Peng Soon/Goh/Goh Liu Ying also breezed into the quarterfinals after their second win in Group C.
They beat Australian combination Robin Middleton and Leanne 21-17, 21-15 in 40 minutes to enter the last eight knock-out stage.
The world number 10 Malaysians will take on third seed, Tontowi Ahmad and Liyana Natsir in the last Group C match tomorrow to decide the group winner. — Bernama
