KUCHING: United People’s Party (UPP) will see a boost of political strength in light of the recent decision of the three Bumiputera elected representatives embracing the party.

Its vice-chairman Simon Lau said UPP is now more confident of delivering quality services for the people and the future of the party looks more promising.

“The future of UPP is bright and promising and we are confident of being a part of Barisan Nasional (BN).”

The return of Opar assemblyman Ranum Mina, Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong and Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil represented a vote of confidence in the leadership of party president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is also Second Finance Minister, said Lau in a press statement.

The southern zone of UPP could not be more pleased with this reunion scenario which has undoubtedly made the party more united than ever, not to mention moving forward as a united force.

“Not only are UPP leaders YBs, but some of them also hold important portfolios in the Sarawak State Cabinet,” said Lau, adding that Dr Jerip is Assistant Minister for Public Health.

He also said that Dudong assemblyman Datuk Tiong Thai King is now the chairman of Sibu Municipal Council.

“Community leaders and YBs of UPP are ever ready to help the people to solve problems as we are part of BN. We are proactive in addressing issues faced by the people in the hope of building up further confidence from them.”

Lau hoped that all within UPP would rally behind the party president to not only strengthen the party but start anew to achieve more targets.
