KUCHING: The Ministry of Health (MoH) is actively searching for a new Halal vaccine formula which features plant extracts with medicinal properties.

According to Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya, efforts to introduce this new formula will be a joint collaboration among experts and relevant agencies.

He added that this was to address the rumours widely spread by a certain movement through the social media that the vaccine in use now contained illegal and dangerous substances detrimental to the health and life of humans.

“The ministry does not just sit still after the existence of this movement which made their presence in Kedah recently that caused the death of approximately five infants who did not receive proper vaccinations.

“I admit, of course there are vaccines that are extracted from animals, but they have been refined and are safe to use, and we need to restore the confidence of the public especially Muslims across the country.”

Hilmi assured that MoH will find a way to create a new vaccine which is plant-based, halal and safe to use.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 27th Ministry of Health National Al-Quran Recital held at the old State Legislative Assembly building on Saturday night.

Commenting further, Hilmi explained that priority would  be given to newborns to get proper immunisation and vaccination, saying failing to do would be tantamount to child abuse.

“Parents especially need to be aware that without vaccination they are actually exposing their children to the possibility of contracting dangerous diseases that could be life-threatening,” he said, adding that the research for the new vaccine would be carried out soon.

In the meantime, he advised the public not to be easily influenced by allegations on social media as it could affect their daily lives.

A total of 30 participants from throughout Malaysia took part in the competition.
