Suspect in Bill Kayong’s murder surrenders, another two still at large

KUCHING: A man wanted in connection with the murder of Dayak rights Bill Kayong surrendered himself to the Miri police station yesterday.

In a press statement issued by State CID chief SAC Dev Kumar, the suspect Chin Wui Chung from Krokop Miri turned up at the police station at 4.50pm.

“He was accompanied by his lawyer at the time of surrender,”he said.

The suspect will be produced at a Magistrate’s Court to obtain a remand order and subsequently chargewith the as per charge sheet.

Dev said efforts were still being made by police to locate two other suspects wanted in connection with the murder.

“ They are advised to surrender themselves as soon as possible as we will not waver in our efforts to bring them to face justice,” he said.

On July 15,  a 29-year-old car repossessor Mohamad Fitri Pauzi was charged with murdering Bill Kayong  at  a traffic light intersection near the

Emart Supermarket, Jalan Miri-Kuala Baram at 8.20am on June 21 under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Another accused, pub owner Lie Chang ,37, was charged with abetting Fitri with the

murder with three other persons under Section 109 read together with Section 302 of the Penal Code.

A warrant of arrest had been issued against the three persons, one of whom is Chin.

The remaining two persons  are Lee Chee Kiang (also known as Datuk Stephen Lee), 45, who is believed to have fled the country as well as Kong Sien Ming, 35.

The police had sought Interpol’s help to trace Lee’s whereabouts.
