MIRI: The dead fish floating in Sungai Lamah, Ulu Teru, have  been washed away by currents, just before the arrival of personnel from Department of Environment (DOE) and Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) for an investigation on the reported sighting.

Tuai Rumah Seman Ringgie, when contacted by thesundaypost yesterday said the dead fish were washed away during high tide on Friday.

“A team from NREB and DOE Miri was here to take samples yesterday (Friday), but there was high tide and all the dead fish had been washed away,” he said when contacted.

According to him, various species of dead fish were seen floating along the river last Wednesday, including some snails.

He said this was the third such incident, the first one being last year, followed by a second incident in June this year, and the latest being Wednesday.

On the possible cause, Seman suspected it was due to waste from an agriculture factory which is located not far from the site.

He added that he had tried to meet up with the operator of the factory but claimed the operator had avoided meeting with him.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau has been notified of the incident and he requested the relevant authority to carry out a necessary investigation to identify the cause of the disturbing incident.

However, he advised members of the public not to speculate on the matter and make assumptions until the investigation is completed.

“NREB and DOE will carry out a thorough investigation on this matter, so I hope the people can be patient and not be too quick to speculate,” he told thesundaypost yesterday.
