SIBU: Runners described their participation in the 6th Edition Borneo Post Run 2016 at Sibu Town Square yesterday as a way to maintain good health.

A veteran participant, Yek Wee Lee, who shared his view, said he participated in the run not for the prize.

“I purely ran to maintain my level of good health. In other words, if I can maintain my level of speed, it speaks by itself that I am fit and healthy.

“Today, I am very happy to be able to maintain my level of speed and it is a double joy for me to reach the finishing line,’ he added in jest.

The 57-year-old has been a regular participant in the Borneo Post Run.

“Running or jogging as what they call it today is one of the best forms of exercise to maintain a healthy mind and body. Jogging is so convenient that we can do it at anytime and anywhere,” he said.

As for a young participant, Emmanoel Amin, who is still studying in primary school, jogging helps a person to keep a healthy mind and body.

“Like my schoolmates, I go for long distance event because I want to enjoy a healthy life by running.

“My main objective of taking part in Borneo Post Run is for health and fun,” he added with a broad smile.

Emmanoel said apart from taking up running for good health, he said he could also make new friends through the activity.

“By having new friends, I can exchange and share constructive ideas on how best I can improve my run and health,” he pointed out. The Borneo Post Run was organised by The Borneo Post with Yeo’s (Yeo Hiap Seng (Malaysia) Berhad) and Gree Malaysia Sdn Bhd as the main sponsors.

Meanwhile, the result of the 6th Edition Borneo Post Run 2016 in the Men’s Open 8km showed Sii Tuong Jing as champion), Hunsan Hasing in second place and Ling Tai Ming finishing third.

As for the Ladies Open 8km event, Tho Siaw Khim was champion, Lee Leh Ha was second place winner and Su Lian Tiing was in third place.

Gerijih Unal was the champion in the Boys Junior 8km, with Claveron Rohan Ho in second place and Raymond Tiong in third place.

In the Girls Junior 8km event, Nia Kanisius finished first while Monives Giling (and Jennelyn Banggu were in second and third places respectively.

Lam Sui Heng dashed to the finishing line to emerge champion in the Fun Run 4km event while Lucas Wong grabbed the second placing and Sylvester Jana Joseph won the third placing.

The champion for the four main categories received RM350, first runners-up RM300, second runners-up RM250 and third runners-up RM200. The champion of the Fun Run category received RM120, first runner-up RM100 and second runner-up received RM80.
