KUCHING: Kuching Intercultural Mooncake Festival is back for the 15th year with a line-up of exciting activities to be held at Carpenter Street and Ewe Hai Street Sept 9 – 15.

Its chairman Datuk Sim Swee Yong said the closing ceremony would be hosted by Kuching Samarahan Serian Chinese Association.

“This is also the first year that Kuching Samarahan Serian Chinese Association is participating in the festival, joining the likes of The Federation of Kuching Division Community Associations and the event organiser Old Market Community Association,” he said in a statement received here yesterday.

He added the festival owed it strength and virility to the support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

“We would like to put on record our utmost gratitude to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture  for his continuous support and advice that keep the festival relevant and vibrant.”

Sim said over the years, the organising committee had built the event on the thrust of the slogan ‘Sight, Sound and Taste’.

“The festival aims to foster unity among races and this ‘unity in diversity’ will continue with this thrust. We aim to showcase as many ethnic cultures as possible during the festival through ‘colours to feed sight, music to feed sound, and food to feed taste’.”

Sim also said the organising committee was inviting those who would like to sell food, souvenirs or other suitable products (to be decided by the committee) to come forward and apply for a stall slot at the festival.

“The rental for stall spaces is RM245 for seven nights and those interested can call Thien at 082-242940 or 012-8088061 to get the application forms,” he said.

Artistic, cultural, traditional and modern performers and entertainers are also invited to participate in the festival. They can call Sim Han Tong at 019-8882000.
